Bio: Born in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, Sammy Wong is a child prodigy who first picked up a violin at the age of four, and has demonstrated incredible passion for the instrument ever since. At the tender age of six, he gave a riveting performance as a featured artist in a one-hour music special hosted by Judy Maddren from CBC Radio News’ World Report. At the age of eight, he won numerous RCM Diploma-level First Prize awards and became a RCM Diploma-level medalist at the OMFA Music Championships, one of the highest level of music competition. At the age of nine, Sammy delivered prize-winning musical performances and was awarded scholarships at international music competitions such as the Royal Music Competition, the Swiss International Music Competition, and the Vivaldi International Music Competition, including receiving Exceptional Technique and Virtuosic Performance Special Prizes. Sammy has delved deeply into many different types of repertoire, demonstrating his virtuosity across styles from concertos to sonatas to partitas, and is constantly looking for the next musical challenge, be it performing with orchestras (recently with the Stratford Symphony Orchestra, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, and the Waterloo Region Orchestra) or performing at pop concerts (recently opened for the iconic Lightfoot Band). Sammy has performed on various violins, including a c. 1700 Giovanni Tononi violin.
